Breaking news, I can’t stand anyone shoving a microphone into a professional athletes face twelve seconds after they broke the sound barrier in a 400-meter sprint. I don’t care what they ate for breakfast, or smoked for dessert. If it’s not a performance enhancer no one cares what they’re doing, and if it is a performance enhancer they should be out of the game until they can test clean. No need to crucify people, no need to name names, sports negativity has to stop. The media has to stop placing young athletes on pedestals just to knock them off with the slightest infraction. Now I’m not saying that Alex Rodriguez isn’t a clubhouse cancer, or a baby, but he’s also a natural athletic talent and unless he’s testing positive for anabolic steroids today, I don’t care, I don’t want to hear about what happen in 2003, I wasn’t even legally allowed to drink in 2003, I could barely vote, a lot has changed, get over it. This retroactive media focus on things that are no longer pertinent has to be ended. Top Story: The Romanovs were murdered by the Bolsheviks, come on people, old news. Keep up. People make mistakes, they smoke pot at frat parties in the south, but if they’re wearing 14 gold medals and you’re not, maybe you should shut up. Sports Journalists and media personalities need to be taken off the air unless they can manage to incorporate some fabric of truth and pertinence into their incessant broadcasts. I’ll take John McEnroe over Barbara Walters any day. Obama is not the messiah people, even he did coke. We’re launching anyone who’s running sound bites of Michael Phelps’ million apology followed shortly by the octuplet woman.

So I took last week off to gather my thoughts and try and figure out where I want my WoW to go. I decided to make sure I stick true to my roots and continue with the gaming posts when I can. This week I have a doozy for all you classic gaming fanatics out there. So I have already introduced you to everyvideogame.com. This set of sites, but more specifically the one I choose of the 5 runs on a similar premise, but is done with more finesse. This site aims to run DOS based games like Lucas Arts’ Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in a flash engine. Need I say more? Check out all of the awesome games they offer for the Sega Master System, Gameboy, and Nintendo, and perhaps my favorite system of all time, Commodore 64, as well.

So here is the Green Tentacle from Maniac Mansion who is essentially one giant, slimy, disgusting thumb up, giving it up for:

I think that this moment is the time for me to end my silence… Today is a day that will go down in history. It is a day that many of us have long awaited, a moment that has outlived many lives, something so unique, so very special that anyone who feels is compelled to experience. At around noon tomorrow, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the new President of the United States. That means something. For the first time ever we have elected a man that does not meet the stereotypical ‘norm’ that is attached to modern politics. Dare I say we have entered the realm of ‘Post Modern’ politics?

Now I know that a lot of folks think that Obama will be one of our worst Presidents, but keep the following in mind… We’ve had some really bad presidents in the past and frankly, I don’t think that Obama could be taking office at a worse time. Just think about it, he is inheriting an economy that may be destined for 1-2 years of mediocrity or worse despite the best efforts of the great financial minds at his disposal. He may be forced to toe the line for any chance of reelection before he can make any earth shattering decisions (though there are some rumors of a decision with Rowe v Wade implications…)

Look, all I’m saying is, let time show us the true merit of Obama. Speculation aside, the US is about to get its first non-white president! That in itself is worth respect.

Respect Mr. Obama… respect…

So 2009 continues along relatively unimpressively, but I know we are all anxiously awaiting tuesdays celebration. The inauguration always gets me thinking. About the country, where we are headed, how the coming years are going to treat me. This particular inauguration has me thinking about the economy. In partiular about how we are going to climb out of this crisis. Its not going to be by hoarding cash under our mattresses. We have to go out there and spend some money. So this tuesday I am urging everyone to go out and spend. Lets give Barack a running start. Therefore I am choosing as my WoW today an online clothing vendor. One that I happen to enjoy tremendously and was founded by some young americans doing what they wanted to do. Something I know Barack Obama would support. They also have a cool, well designed website currently with a video featuring one of my favorite chefs, Chris Cosentino. Watch him dismantle a pigs head and see if it inspires you to try it like I did. It probably won’t but you may end up buying a fly hoodie or a one of a kind cap. Check it out.

On the american note, here is the President Elect giving us a thumbs up for:

So as we enter the worst recession that we all have ever seen (perhaps there are fewer posts as we all try to hang on to our jobs?), it seems that people are freaking out. Not like, “I’m gonna lose my job,” or “how will I pay for my new suit,” but “with the potential collapse of global capital flows also comes a complete collapse of civil society, as there will be no more money. I better stock up on guns, canned food, and property in Vermont.” And I ask (Bobby D. may ask the same thing), why does the end of money mean the end of civil society? (I also ask, if there will be no more money, why not just put your flag on the property in VT, and defend it with your guns? Sounds like somebody needs to think all the way outside the box). In my humble and non pinko commie opinion, the beginning of money as an individual pursuit signified the beginning of the end of civil society in its true form, and instituted a civil society reduced to exchanges of money and nothing else.

I think that the end of money as we know it could result in the beginning of a real civil and global society. Think about it: The end of corporations, capital flows, loans, etc, would ultmately end what a lot of people consider to be their final purpose, which is leaving a shit ton of money in the bank. But it also opens up an opportunity for true global governance–as the ivory tower crumbles, maybe the G8 takes on new significance based less upon what happened in 1950-1989 economically and more upon what they can do for the globe in its entirety. All I’m saying, with my limited background in anything economic, is that I don’t think the end of money has to mean that we all live in a scene out of 28 days later. Rather, I think it could mean the end of things like billboards, MTV, $450 million dollar baseball payrolls (sorry vonheezy), adn the beginning of things like public broadcast, public radio, public school, national infrastructure, and global infrastructure, which do all require money, but don’t require private capital. Maybe everything is free, and maybe something like socialism arises with no concept of national boundaries.

Or maybe we’re all completely effed. Thoughts?

So it would appear I have taken control of Digital Chaos Media for my own. The power is making me crazy…

You know what else makes me crazy? When I get a new videogame and I can’t withstand the impulse to immediately search the internet for hints, tips, tricks, and cheats. Luckily for me, there are no lack of sites that cater to people like me. I am willing to admit that I am a cheater. Not always, but sometimes, and especially when it is necessary (LucasArts, The Dig, crazy color button puzzle, I am looking in your direction…). Sometimes I don’t cheat when others always do (GTAIV, story mode, I don’t see the point, the game is that easy) I am a sucker for a walkthrough (Zak Mcracken and the Alien Mindbenders, Maniac Mansion) but I never cheat when it involves hardware (Halo modders are assholes) So when I am looking for a little info on a game, maybe pre-release, some forum chatter, or just a little thing we call invincibility code, I check out GameFaqs.

For this thumbs up I can’t quite see if he even has any fingers, but I imagine he is giving me the thumbs up for entering the most memorable cheat code of all time.
